Ciao from across the pond! I arrived in Italy two days ago (Tuesday January 13), and have been keeping myself extremely busy (which explains the late posting). Here's a quick synopsis of my time so far:
I spent almost 17 hours traveling from home to Bologna after only getting about 6 hours of sleep the night before I left. I had a crazy adventure in the London airport where I was extremely close to missing my flight to Bologna due to long passport and security lines (yes, the pilot actually held off safety procedures before departing to see if I'd make it in time). Thankfully, after running like a maniac through Heathrow, I made it to my flight just in the knick of time. When I landed in Bologna, I met several girls from my program, and we took a taxi together to our dorm. My first day consisted of unpacking, a walking tour, and dinner at my school. After being awake for over 35 hours, I was glad to finally get some sleep. My first full day in Bologna began with my Italian placement test followed by exploring in the city and shopping at a local convenience store. Last night, we went to a Trattoria where we had an authentic Bolognese meal. It was delicious! Today, I spend half the day at the post office to fill out required documents to legalize my visa, and walked around the city. I had my first Italian gelato: fragola and limone (strawberry and lemon). There will definitely be more of that in the next four months! Can't wait for my day trip to Pisa, Italy tomorrow! More posts to come!
